- -----Advanced Documentation-----
-
-
- What can be provided here doesn't come close to the printed
- documentation but there are a few things that should be
- covered in a simple fashion.
-
-
-
- ----Load Another Application----
-
- The installation program configured your copy of Perfect
- Recall to use Internet In A Box and Windows Write.
-
- You might want to edit the installed applications if:
-
- (1) You do not have IBox and did not successfully substitute
- another application during the installation process.
-
- (2) You want to use some other application such as Winword,
- Word Perfect or perhaps a different image viewer.
-
- Start SETUP.EXE found in C:/PR to edit the list of installed
- applications.
-
- Note: if your copy of Net Resources is linked to a pre-
- existing copy or Perfect Recall loaded somewhere else then
- start the other copy, navigate to the first screen of Net
- Resources, select MENU, select OTHER OPERATIONS and load
- SETUP.
-
- From within SETUP select (3) Program ACCESS COMMAND menu.
- This is a list of installed applications. Your Web browser
- should be in line 2. Your graphic image viewer should be in
- line 3. These two lines should stay as browser followed by
- graphic viewer. They may be edited if you want to use some
- other program but not deleted. Every file in the database
- is tied to a specific line in this list. Deleting will not
- really erase it, just make it disappear and the files will
- continue to use it.
-
- If an application program is not starting correctly then
- highlight it on this list and press RETURN (ENTER) to edit.
- The most likely culprit is the PATH and COMMAND setting.
-
- You may completely re-write an application access command to
- make the program use some other program.
-
- Additional programs may be added by selecting COPY Pre-
- existing. This will display a list of other supported
- programs to choose from. Selecting ADD will construct an
- access command from scratch. You will need to be reasonably
- familiar with DOS to do this. The printed documentation
- really helps here.
-
-
-
- -----Working with the Category Tree Structure-----
-
- The Net Resource database comes with the following setup;
-
- (1) Web sites
- (2) Internet Sites
- (3) Graphics
- (4) Documents
- (5) Address
- (6) E-mail
- (7) Threads
- (8) Imported records
-
- There are two things you might want to do; add a new
- category and move all existing categories under one to clean
- things up.
-
- -----Adding a New Category-----
-
- Suppose you had been saving Web URL's to a Windows Write
- file and decided to make a new category under (1) Web sites
- called Companies. This might be a place to put information
- about businesses or products.
-
- Instructions:
- Go to the Web sites category so the following list appears.
-
- (1) Jump stations
- (2) Shareware
- (3) On-line stores
- (4) Art work
- (5) Photos
- (6) Saved Web pages
-
- Select MENU (press M)
- Select EDIT CATEGORY
- Select ADD
- Type in "Business" as the name and press RETURN.
- Type in "( Companies and Product information )"
- Press RETURN to accept.
-
- Conceptually the next part is really strange. We're going
- to assign the new category to an existing database.
-
- Select (1) Make new category to hold records.
- Highlight NET Sites and press RETURN.
- Answer YES to accept the selection.
-
- Press RETURN to get passed the next message.
-
- Enter "C:\PR\WEB" in (1).
- Enter ".htm" in (2).
- Highlight (3) and press RETURN.
- Highlight Spry Mosaic and press RETURN.
- Press ESC to save.
-
- You now have (7) Business listed.
-
- Explaining what all we just did is a bit much with
- understanding how the program works. The printed
- documentation goes into all this in detail.
-
-
- -----Cleaning up the start-up screen-----
-
- Perfect Recall can handle any type of work in the same
- fashion as it does Internet material. Therefore you might
- want to adopt it for more personal needs. Before creating
- categories for other purposes it makes sense to lump all the
- internet stuff under one caterory called Internet Resources.
-
- Starting from the main menu. (Where the upper left corner
- says Perfect Recall.
-
- Select MENU
- Select EDIT CATEGORY
- Select ADD
- Type in "Internet Resources" and press RETURN.
- Type in any description you please or none and press RETURN.
- Select (2) Make PATH ONLY category.
-
- OK. Now you have an Internet Resources category that does
- nothing more than serve as a stepping stone. Next, all
- other existing categories must moved under the new one.
-
- Select MENU
- Select EDIT CATEGORY
- Select MOVE ELSEWHERE
- Type in 1-8 and press RETURN.
- Press the down arrow key until (9) is highlighted and press
- the right arrow key.
- Press M
-
- Now everything is under Internet Resources.
- Press ESC to return to the main screen and you'll see there
- is now only one category left. As a rulle, work should be
- organized into such branches.
-
-
- There is one other area we haven't covered and won't at this
- time. What if you aquired a bunch of graphics such that the
-
- (1) Internet Resources/ (3) Graphics
-
- had to be subdivided. This is common operation. Creating
- sub categories under (3) Graphics would be easy enough.
- Just highlight (3), press the right arrow key and use the
- MENU operations as before. But after that the existing
- graphic files must be selectively moved out the (3) Graphics
- and into the new sub-categories. I'll give you a hint.
- With (3) Graphics showing in the upper box and the new
- categories listed below, move the highlight up until the
- upper box moves in front of the lower subcategory box. Now
- press G to view existing entries. Select MOVE. You're on
- your own now. Just following the instructions.
-
-
- The work covered here is not the sort of thing to be
- committed to memory. This type of reorganizational work is
- rare. It's best to simply refer to the documentation when
- necessary.
-
- The printed documentation is nearly 300 pages. Half of every
- page is used for graphics to keep you on track. There are
- five tutorials demonstrating how to apply Perfect Recall to
- common needs.
-
- Run the BUYER.EXE program to purchase the documentation.
- You do not need to register the program to do this.
